Removing debris thrown up by the powerful tsunami revealed that only concrete foundations remained throughout the devastated area. The foundations left behind offered sobering testimony to the memories of the devastated neighborhood. I felt driven to respect this. The flowerbed-like form gave me an idea: “Sowing seeds of Hope”, even as the foundations remained a sad reflection of disaster. During this time, I often came across people quietly looking over the remnants of these lost homes. I wanted them to find a place where they could rest and look up, not simply stand in silence. Therefore I put chairs and tables close to the flowerbeds.
